This community features a variety of custom-built homes in a peaceful lake setting.

Fairwood, a friendly bedroom community is a short commute to a variety of Puget Sound locations, including a 30-45 minute commute to Downtown Seattle.

  1. Lake Desire Emergency Preparedness Meeting – 9/8/09, 7pm - Our next meeting is coming up at Kathy Shertz’s house, 18533 W Lk Desire Dr SE, 425-228-8666.   2. Women’s Walk/BBQ–9/9/09, 6:45pm – Join Dorothy Paun at the trail head at the end of West Lake Desire Drive (clubhouse road). Women are invited to a post hike campfire at my place (old scout camp at the end of East Lake Desire Dr) on Wednesday, 9/9 at 8:15pm. She’ll provide a campfire, Jiffy Pop for over the fire, cold beer (feel free to bring other snacks and drinks that you prefer). If it rains, it will be inside.   3. Women’s Workouts – 9/15, 7:30-8:30pm -Lake Desire Women are invited to start working out at the Clubhouse on Tuesdays at 7:30pm starting 9/15/09.  A pilate instructor will lead the group for a small fee. You can sign up monthly or on a drop in basis. They need a core group to start the program.  Contact Lynn, Snips4@aol.com or Heather, Heather.Stafford@comcast.net for details.
  4. Sewer Contractors Wanted – One of our neighbors thought it might be helpful if people who have found sewer contractors could put them on a list to go out in the newsletters.  Please respond to this email so we can compile a list of recommended contractors.  Submitted by Kim Reeves, kim@euraquilo.net.
  5. Help Wanted - Dorothy Paun, to.e@comcast.net, is looking for a house painter and also someone to do a dump run (one pick up load of old wood).  (She resurfaced her porches) and related clean up (maybe 10-20 hours at $10 an hour).
  6. Weather Tracking – Kathy Shertz used to take rain totals, and noted weather events in the Lake Desire area, but is unable to continue.  Her rain gauge showed a rainfall of just over 2” this last weekend.  Maybe a resident or student in the neighborhood could make a school project out of it?  If interested, contact Ted, Ted.Buehner@noaa.gov or see http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sew/ to search for Weather Spotting Training.   7. Lake Desire Rental Available – A rental house across from the boat launch at 17415 W. Lake Desire Dr SE is now available.  It is a 3 bedroom, 1 bonus room, 2 bath.  Newly remodeled and painted. For more details contact Henry at hkelsey041@comcast.net or call 425-228-3218.
  8. Aggressive Doberman Update – The dog bite victim has pursued this case as far as he can, but until Animal control knows where the dog lives, they can't do anything.  Unfortunately, they are still unable to pinpoint the owner of a Doberman who seems to be getting loose near East Lake Desire and the boat launch. There is still a case #7031 open on this particular dog, and residents are urged to contact animal control at 206-708-4947 if they know any details or have any further issues. Anyone who calls is free to remain anonymous.

  10. Renton Fall Recycle Day – 9/19, 9-3pm at Renton Technical College – Recycle plastics, household goods, bulky yard waste, scrap metal, tires and more.  For more details see www.rentonwa.gov or call 425-430-7398.
  11. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT Training) - Ages 18 & up. After a disaster, people should be prepared to take care of their own needs for a period of time until help arrives. The Renton Fire and Emergency Service Department offers CERT to teach individuals how to prepare their homes and neighborhoods to respond to disasters. Topics covered include personal preparedness, first aid, fire suppression, search and rescue, terrorism and team organization. Instruction includes a combination of classroom and practical “hands-on” training. CERT graduates serve as their own “first responders” during the critical period after a disaster when existing resources are overwhelmed.   12. Map Your Neighborhood Facilitator Training - Ages 15 & up. Going a step beyond personal emergency preparedness, which is not specifically addressed in this training, this course will prepare you to organize and lead a 90-minute discussion with your neighbors. Together with your neighbors you will take an inventory of the special needs and emergency resources you have in your own neighborhood. Lake Desire Clubhouse Rental – Contact Vi Anderson at 425-226-7005 or woods_inn@msn.com  for details.  The clubhouse features a full kitchen, tables and chairs to seat up to 40 people (max 60), new carpet and restrooms. Members receive a discount on renting the community clubhouse.  The normal rate is $75 to rent the clubhouse for the whole day or ($15 per hour- min. of 3 hours.) Members can rent the clubhouse at a discount for only $60 per day. Membership is $15 for the calendar year for individuals/families or $10 for senior citizens.
